Alternative treatments relieve pain in hospitalized patients

[eMaxHealth; Allina Newsroom, March 6, 2010] Alternative treatments such as acupuncture, massage, music therapy, and aromatherapy, among others, can effectively relieve pain in hospitalized patients. This finding by researchers at Abbott Northwestern Hospital comes from a first-of-its-kind study of the impact of an inpatient integrative medicine program on pain.

Hospitals like try to improve patient experience

[Minneapolis / St. Paul Business Journal, March 5, 2010] Whether it's providing patients the food they want or making sure staff are helpful and polite, hospitals are starting to follow the maxims that are taken for granted in other areas of business: serve customers in a timely, courteous manner, and give them what they want.

United Hospital, part of Allina Hospitals & Clinics, switched its food vendor that operates on a room-service model. Instead of mass preparing food and delivering trays at times designated by the unit, the new vendor, Gaithersburg, Md.-based Sodexo, prepares meals individually that patients order from a menu.
