Allina's Mercy Hospital forum: Breast cancer myths and realities
COON RAPIDS, Minn. 09/14/2009--Allina's Mercy Hospital cancer experts will lead a free community forum to discuss myths about breast cancer prevention, screening and treatment.
"Misinformation might keep women from recognizing or minimizing their risks and from getting the best breast care possible," said Surgeon Dana Carlson, MD.
Dr. Carlson recites some common falsehoods:
- stress causes breast cancer
- all breast cancers come in the form of lumps, and
- overweight women have the same breast cancer risk as other women.
All myths don't have definitive answers, but all will be up for discussion Monday, October 26, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in Mercy Hospital's auditorium, 4050 Coon Rapids Blvd, Coon Rapids, MN 55433.
On the panel with Dr. Carlson will be Radiologist Ellen Abeln, MD; Genetic Counselor Denise Marty, and Oncologist Astrid Garino, MD.
