New Board Members for Mercy & Unity Hospitals’ Foundation03/06/2006--Mercy & Unity Hospitals’ Foundation has four new members on the board of directors. Valerie McKee, William Huefner, Larry Peterson and Donald Collins, MD, recently accepted three-year terms. McKee tutors gifted high school students and is an officer of Timco Construction. In addition, McKee has experience in event planning and fundraising. Huefner is an attorney with Barna, Guzy, and Steffen. Huefner, who is also a certified public accountant, specializes in estate and tax planning. Peterson is the vice president of Corporate Services for Connexus Energy. He is active in community organizations and economic development. Collins is a physician who specializes in obstetrics and gynecology. He is the immediate past chief of staff of Mercy & Unity Hospitals. Other foundation board members are chairman Jim Amundson, Keith Boulais, Scott Bromley, Louis Cottrell, Pam Deal, Chris Gorham, Justine Grow, Jamie Kveton, Tracy Peck, Amin Rahmatullah, M.D., Doris Schulte, Jerry Seeman, Karen Strauman-Raymond and Stewart Wilson. Through corporate and private donors, special events, campaigns and grant writing, the foundation raised more than one million dollars last year to support patient care, community health initiatives, nursing scholarships and other projects. Mercy & Unity Hospitals, located in Coon Rapids and Fridley, are non-profit hospitals that serve the northern Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. Mercy & Unity respond to a wide range of health care needs with specialty services including bariatric weight-loss surgery, behavioral health, cardiac care, emergency, oncology, orthopedics, neurosciences and women’s and children’s services.
