Allina's River Falls Area Hospital and Clinic Celebrate Successful Women’s Health Care Event
RIVER FALLS, WISC. 05/05/2009--River Falls Area Hospital announced today it’s first successful EmpowHer—A women’s health, fitness and mammogram event on Saturday, May 2. More than 20 women attended the event, created to promote and celebrate healthy women. The event was hosted by the hospital in conjunction with the River Falls Medical Clinic.
Women attended educational sessions ranging on topics from how to eat healthy on a budget which included tips on key items to purchase organically, breast cancer and the genetic link, how to survive changes our bodies go through as we age, self defense quick tips, and an inspirational reflective session on how to take time to care for ourselves.
Women were also offered the opportunity to have their routine mammogram done at the event and review the results immediately with the radiologist. Fifteen mammograms were performed.
“It was great to be able to provide women the opportunity to review the results immediately. For one woman, it was her first mammogram. She came in with her mother and was slightly apprehensive but commented on how this experience put her at ease and how she walked away full of knowledge about the importance of getting a routine yearly mammogram in addition to knowledge of changes in breast tissue and signs to watch for when doing monthly self exams,” Eve Stahl, Radiology manager. “We also provided each woman who received a mammogram a pink boa to create the fun and festive atmosphere.”
“I would like to express my sincere gratitude for your welcoming us women to the first very energizing and informative morning,” said Grace Rocha, an event participant. “It was well planned and I would like to extend my thanks to the doctors, other speakers, members of the staff and volunteers and all others who continue offering services to us women. Also thank you for the sign of new seasons—the flowering plants.”
The hospital and clinic plan on doing a similar event in October. The goal is to educate the community on breast and overall health for women while providing an opportunity to pamper them at the same time. Pink Boas, a heart healthy breakfast, complimentary chair massages and valet parking, as well as spring flowers were all part of the event.
